Common Toenail Problems Treated

●     Ingrown Toenails

●     Fungal Toenail Infections

●     Thickened Deformed Toenails

Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails are one of the most prevalent toenail issues treated at our clinic. This painful condition develops when the toenail grows into the surrounding skin, resulting in redness, swelling, infection, and discharge.

Causes

Ingrown toenails often occur in big toes when the nail curves downward into the skin next to it. Causes include:

●     Improperly trim nails

●     Hereditary nail structure

●     Improperly sized shoes

●     Injury/trauma to the toe

Symptoms

Common symptoms associated with ingrown toenails include:

●     Redness, swelling around the toenail

●     Painful sensitivity when pressure is applied

●     Pus-like drainage from the nail

●     Difficulty walking

Treatments

We offer surgeries performed under local anaesthesia to treat ingrown toenails. Surgical options include:

Partial Nail Removal (Edges)

This involves the removal of the sides of the nail pressing into the skin. The nail root remains intact, allowing the rest of the nail to grow out normally.

Complete Nail Removal

In severe recurring cases, we may opt to fully remove the entire painful nail. After a new nail grows in, proper trimming and shoes are vital to prevent recurrence.

Fungal Toenail Infections

Toenail fungus is another common issue affecting nails that we successfully treat. This condition, known medically as onychomycosis, is an infection underneath or on top of the nail caused by fungal organisms such as dermatophytes. Warm, moist environments like swimming pools, showers, socks and shoes often harbour fungi.

Custom treatment plans are created after examining each patient’s toes and nails. Surgical removal of part or all of the nail is often performed using a high-speed drill, chemical applications or laser procedures. Administering numbing medication prevents sensitivity.

We schedule toenail surgery in London when the toenail condition warrants it. Simply arrive with clean feet on the treatment day. Inform us about any new developments since the consult.
