Partial Nail Avulsion
The portion of the nail that is harming the skin is permanently removed with PNA surgery. It is a short and common ingrown toenail surgery in London that is typically utilised when conservative therapies are ineffective for uncomplicated cases of ingrown toenails. Because much of the nail can remain connected, and our podiatrists also prefer it.
Advantages
● A short process that takes 45 to 60 minutes
● After healing, a nail with a 98% success rate looks normal.
● Permanently resolves the problem
● A speedy recuperation period
Total Nail Avulsion
TNA surgery, which removes the entire nail permanently, is typically only performed when a thicker or badly damaged toenail is causing persistent issues that the easier PNA surgery cannot resolve. Although it is not the recommended course of action, in certain rare circumstances it may be required to prevent further issues.
Advantages
● A 98% success rate for a long-term fix for a nail that won't grow back
● A quick and easy process that takes about 45 to 60 minutes
● Quick rates of recovery
Phenolization
The most popular treatment for ingrown toenails is partial nail avulsion combined with phenolization. It destroys the nail matrix using phenol, a mild acid, and is safe, easy, and successful. Post-operative pain and infection are minimal.
Most of our patients prefer this procedure since it has a high success rate (98.5%) and produces a nail that looks natural.
The mild acid in the liquid phenol is allowed to break down the nail matrix and eliminate the source of the pain and suffering by applying it to the affected area for at least one minute.
Patients with diabetes or those with vascular problems can safely employ this technique. The use of phenol treatments is not recommended for patients who are pregnant or nursing, despite the lack of data to substantiate the existence of risk factors.
The Process
It is an easy and quick fix for ingrown nails that hurt. There are only four actions to take after the toe has been numbed.
● Step 1: The toe is numbed, the nail edge is cut and separated from the nail plate, and a tourniquet is applied to restrict blood flow (for improved visibility and phenol efficacy).
● Step 2: Remove any leftover pieces and carefully pull the cut nail edge out of the nail fold. At this stage, any excess tissue that has developed over the area will also be removed.
● Step 3: After using phenol acid for three 20-second treatments to break down the nail matrix, the toenail is cleaned with a fresh solution.
● Step 4: After the tourniquet is taken off and the toe is bandaged and treated with antibiotic ointment, you can return home and unwind.
